Dighton was founded in 1712 as the southern precinct of the Town of Taunton by a woman named Frances Dighton Williams. Dighton is the geographic center of Bristol County and is also its rural economic center. Bristol County Agricultural High School is located here, as well as the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District.
Dighton is a mixture of suburban and rural settings with a strong industrial presence. It has a full array of activities and service, as well as an excellent educational system from its regional K-12 school district.
The Town of Dighton retains close regional ties with Taunton, Fall River and Providence Rhode Island.
